Degrading the Intercontinental Title
Sorry for not writing in a while but you know, I had to take a hiatus due to school but I am back and it is time for another negative post directed at WWE. This one is similar to my desecrating of the WWE title post but this time it is not about them making this belt a bling-bling sideshow. This one is about them just using this belt as a piece of metal to hopefully get guys over. This belt used to be exciting to see defended. Now it is just seems useless to have this title. Think of all of the hall of famers and future ones that have held this title. Now it is given to guys to hopefully get them over and it has been a long time since that title has been held by a future hall of famer. I agree with what Shawn Michaels said in his book that the belt does not make you, you make the belt. Remember when The Rock and HHH were fighting for this title in ‘98. They had matches for this title that were sometimes better than the WWE title matches. They had a ladder match at Summerslam 98 in which that match was the most exciting one on that show and that show was headlined by 2 future hall of famers in Stone Cold and The Undertaker. Even after their series of matches, the belt was still an exciting part of their shows. They abandoned the belt in late ‘02 but revived it in April of ‘03. At first I was excited about it but as time wore on, I got bored with it. They had a great feud going on between Booker T and Christian but when that feud was over, so were the glory years of the Intercontinental title it seems. Think of all of the feuds for the title these days and compare them to ones from 5 to 15 years ago. They dont even match up and this is the title that supposedly tells you who will be a future flag bearer for the WWE and they dont seem to be showing that. Carlito could be one and I say that because he had a feud with Orton not to far back but he did the job for Orton then he disappeared for a couple of weeks. I thoght this was telling me that they were going to start something huge for Carlito but it just seemed to be a filler for 1 month for Orton and now Carlito really has nothing going on and to think people say he will break out in 2007. Shelton could be huge but they just seemingly gave him the title and now that Jeff Hardy is back they dont seem to care about him that much or even building this guy up yet they say he doesnt want to improve. Bullcrap! This guy is one their best pure athletes and they dont seemingly care about that. Build him up instead of Jeff because I gurantee Shelton will be here for a long time and Jeff is starting to get up there in age. They finally had an exciting match between Jeff and Johnny Nitro a couple of weeks back in a ladder but it wasnt as good as I thought it could be. But my overall point is that they give the belt to guys and hope they make it. Guys used to make this belt exciting. This belt is the second best belt in the company and a huge stepping stone towards the WWE title but now, it is given to guys who have nothing going on and the wonderful creative genius at WWE dont seem to care about this title anymore. Think of all of the guys that have held this title and went on to win the WWE title: HHH, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, Edge, The Rock, Kurt Angle, Bret Hart, Stone Cold, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guererro, Randy Savage, and the list goes on and on of WWE titleholders and legends of this industry. Now, they treat this title like a worthless piece of metal and I dont enjoy that at all. Thanls again for reading my blog and stay tuned because the year is almost over and it will be time for the blogs second year in review post and there are so many stories to cover from this year that had huge contreversy and awesome moments. The Magnificent Muraco, in my opinion, was the greatest Intercontinental Championof all time. Of course, that was back when belts meant something.
