Eddie (Eduardo) Guererro Tribute

eddie g pic On Sunday, November 13, the wrestling world was saddened by the death of Eddie Guererro. Eddie was 38 years old. To the wrestling world, he was known as Latino Heat but to his family, he was known as a devoted husband and father. He just moved his family to Phoenix to start life anew and leave all of the bad memories behind. Eddie was born into Mexico’s first wrestling family and had alot of rich Guererro heritage behind him. He grew up with a wrestling ring in his back yard because his father was the great Gory Guererro. Eddie broke into the business in Mexico working for AAA for a couple years and traveled all around the world before jumping to the states and working in ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling). Eddie had a good run in ECW along with buddies like Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit. Eddie even held the ECW T.V. title and traded it back and forth with buddy Dean Malenko. After his tenure with ECW was coming to a close, Eddie, Dean, and Chris all got signed off by WCW (World Championship Wrestling). In WCW, he had some career defining feuds such as his feud with Rey Mysterio. Eddie brought in his nephew Chavo Guererro and teamed with him for awhile before turning his back on him and feuded with him. Eddie held the WCW U.S. Title along with the WCW Cruiserweight Title. In 1999, Eddie was in a near fatal car accident and was not expected to live past 48 hours. Eddie lived and was back in the ring shortly thereafter but because he had fights with the WCW hierarchy like Eric Bischoff, Eddie walked out of WCW. In January 2000, Eddie jumped to the WWE with Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn, and Chris Benoit and they became known as the Radicalz. Early in his tenure with WWE, he dislocated his shoulder and while doing a frog splash and was out for the next couple of months. Eddie returned and feuded with Chris Jericho for a little while taking Jericho’s European title in the process. He eventually lost the title but was with gold again after by winning the Intercontinental title. Eddie held that title for a couple of months before dropping it to Billy Gunn. At Wrestlemania 17, he defeated Test for the European title again and held that belt for a couple of months. In the spring of 2001, Eddie entered a drug rehab center and a couple of months later was released from the WWE. Eddie cleaned himself back up, fought on the indy circuit for awhile before WWE called and gave him a second chance. He returned in April 2002 and feuded with Rob Van Dam for the Intercontinental Title and using the excuse for his return by saying the RVD stole the frog splash finisher from him. He eventually beat RVD for the title and in late 2002, reunited with nephew Chavo, naming themselves Los Guererros and winning the WWE Tag Team titles in the process. In 2003, he was crowned the first WWE U.S. champ and held it until October of that year. In Feburary of 2004, he won his first WWE title from then champ Brock Lesnar at No Way Out. Over the next couple of months, he beat Kurt Angle and JBL while defeniding his title before dropping it to JBL at the Great American Bash in a Bullrope Match. He would never regain the title although tried really hard to. In 2005, he held the WWE tag titles once again with good buddy Rey Mysterio. He battled Rey Mysterio in a classic match also at Wrestlemania 21. He eventually turned his back on Mysterio and had a very good summer feud with him also beating Mysterio for the first time at Smackdown’s debut on friday nights on September 9. He was recently fight World champ Batista and was saying he has gotten away from his old ways of lying, cheating, and stealing. Lats Monday, it was announced on Raw that Eddie had passed away and many wrestlers said some very good things about Eddie recalling chidhood memories and road stories. Eddie has left his mark on the wrestling world and he will be forever missed by WWE wrestlers and fans around the world as he has lied, cheated, and stolen all of our hearts with his positive attitude and unforgettable charisma. Like his DVD is named, Eddie cheated death many times but this time death cheated him. On behalf of myself and my little brother, we will miss you and never, ever forget you Eddie.
